5/31 Game Recap (7-0 Win)

The Devils ended the 2008 Spring Season with a bang on Saturday, rolling to a 7-0 win over the Milpitas Strikers. 6 players scored, including Akayla, who led the team with 2 goals.

The girls led 5-0 at halftime on a strong offensive performance, highlighted by an Akayla shot that rang off the crossbar and into the goal. Kelly scored in the opening minutes of the game on a 25-foot shot from outside the box.

Courtney and Marlene also scored in the opening half on put backs from in tight. Both goals came after the offense pressed the play with a series of pretty passes through the middle. Marlene’s scored after her own shot bounced off the goaltender’s chest, setting up the easy shot into the wide open net.

Jessica and Akayla combined in goal to record the team’s second shutout of the season. Sammie, Karsyn, Lindsay and Ruhi played a pressing defense that kept the ball in the Strikers zone much of the afternoon.

In the second half, Christene scored on a pretty breakaway play, after Akayla launched a goal kick from the Devils box over the Strikers defenders. It was off to the races from there, ending in a nifty move by Christene to deek the goaltender and tap in the Devils 6th goal of the game.

Ruhi would move up into the offensive play and score on a pretty shot from outside the left post to cap the games scoring.

Sammie narrowly missed making it an 8-0 game with a blast from the top of the box that bounced off the Strikers goaltender and seemed headed for the goal, but the netminder was able to scramble back and dive on the ball at the goal line.
